I’ve been inundating myself with books, games and television shows for the past three weeks. I didn’t realize just how much stuff I’d been going through until last night, when I tried recalling how I’d been spending my evenings. No wonder I keep losing sleep. The sight of daybreak is becoming far too common these days.
I’ve started reading Tall Stories, a Tom Holt omnibus that contains Expecting Someone Taller and Ye Gods!, two of his earlier novels. I enjoy the narrative style a great deal: it is as pleasantly readable as it is obvious proof of just how erudite and humorous the author is. It’s so amusing that I brought the book with me yesterday while running a Makati errand, and I spent almost the entire time on the trains with my nose buried in it: a noteworthy thing, considering the omnibus, while not huge, isn’t exactly pocket-sized either.
Prior to reading Holt, I was reading more of Jim Butcher’s work: Death Masks and Blood Rites, books five and six of the Dresden Files. It’s detective noir set in present-day Chicago, with a sharp fantasy angle. If you’re familiar with White Wolf’s World of Darkness-based RPGs, it’s very, very similar. The Dresden Files make for a rollicking read, shot through with suspense, excitement, adventure and convoluted twists. It’s a very easy series to pick up, and while there’s a very solid continuity throughout, it’s the sort of series that you can get into with any book in the sequence and not feel lost. Starting from the beginning and reading it all in order, though, is much more rewarding.

This is worth posting all by its lonesome. I keep cracking up whenever I watch it.

We’ll be having another Yale House Party on June 30, Saturday, to celebrate Paul’s birthday (July 1). I’ll post more details about it soon, once Paul comes up with a proper invite. Invitees, you know (or will know, very soon) who you are.
My Flickr account is steadily growing. I’ll most likely be posting photos there, instead of embedding them in my posts here. Saves me the hassle of linkage.
If you want to see, the link’s over there on my sidebar.
I was out drinking again last night with the Academy, and this time I -did- have a decent amount of water. So, for the first time in weeks, no crippling hangover. Must curb self-destructive tendencies.

I really should drink more water when I go out drinking. That way I can avoid having a really unpleasant hangover the next day. I’ll get to that later, though.
I just finished watching the first season of Shark! It’s an excellent series, with fast, sharp dialogue and unorthodox development. I concede that a couple of the plots were a tad predictable, but overall the season left me with the impression that it was a faster-paced, legal-world version of House. I recommend it to anyone who’d enjoy rapacious wit and logic with a morally dubious sense of legal practice skewed towards the good guys, for once.
I’ve been taking more photos with my new camera, and it functions like a dream. Considering it’s not a fancy affair (it’s actually pretty basic), I continue to be impressed with how sensitive it is to light and how well it captures color and contrast. I really should invest in rechargable batteries, though, if I don’t intend to wipe myself out buying fresh ones all the time. Better for the environment, too.
